Cookies on this site
Cookie policy
Cookies are small text files a website leaves on your device. This page explains which ones we use on emmacarlton.com, what each one is for, and how to change your mind at any time.
Last updated August 2026The short version
The cookies that make the site work are always on, because without them it would not function. Everything else, such as analytics and anything embedded from another service, only runs if you agree to it in the cookie banner. You can change your choice whenever you like.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small file stored by your browser when you visit a website. It lets the site remember things between pages and between visits, such as whether you are logged in or whether you have already dismissed a banner. Similar technologies such as pixels, local storage and web beacons do much the same job, and where we mention cookies on this page we mean those too.
The cookies we use
| Type | What it does | Needs consent |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the website working: page loading, security, form submissions, and remembering your cookie choices so the banner does not reappear on every page. | No |
| Booking | Set by our booking system, which is embedded on the classes page, so it can hold your selection while you choose a class and a date and complete your booking. | No, where it is needed to complete a booking you have started |
| Analytics | Tells us how many people visit, which pages are read and how people found us, so we know which classes people are looking for. This is reported to us as numbers, not as named individuals. | Yes |
| Embedded content | Set by third parties whose content appears on our pages, such as maps, videos and social feeds. These services may set their own cookies when their content loads. | Yes |
| Marketing | Used to measure whether an advert or a social post brought someone to the site. We only use these when we are running a campaign. | Yes |
Cookies set by other companies are governed by their own privacy and cookie policies, which we would encourage you to read if you want the full detail on what they collect.
How long they last
Some cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser. Others stay on your device for a set period, usually anywhere from a few days to a couple of years, so the site can recognise a returning visitor. Your cookie preference itself is stored for a limited period, after which the banner will ask you again.
Changing your mind
You can reopen the cookie banner at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of any page, and change what you allow. Withdrawing consent stops any further non essential cookies being set.
You can also manage cookies in your browser. Every major browser lets you block cookies, delete the ones already stored, or ask to be told each time one is offered, through its settings or preferences menu. Do bear in mind that blocking all cookies will stop parts of this site working properly, including the class booking system.
Do not track
Some browsers send a "do not track" signal. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to it, so we do not currently act on it. Your choices in our cookie banner are what govern the cookies we set.
More about your information
For the wider picture on what we collect, why, how long we keep it and the rights you have, please read our privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. Any updates will appear on this page with a new "last updated" date.
